A welcoming town, Tempio Pausania is particularly famous for its Winter Carnival, among the most famous of Sardinia, celebrated with six days of wild dances and parades of floats with thousands of people.
In July, the International Folklore Festival is held, with more than 30 previous editions, while on 14th and 15th August the Mountain Festival brings many visitors to Mount Limbara.
The festival of Sant’Isidoro, protector of farmers, is instead celebrated on the first Sunday of September: the statue is carried in procession through the streets of the historic centre, using carts pulled by oxen and the accompaniment of a musical band, knights and folkloristic groups coming from various parts of Sardinia, and launeddas players (a musical instrument of ancient origin, made of canes).
Also not to be missed is the Festa di Maria Bambina, the first Sunday of September, with the torchlight procession in the dark through the city streets.
